ONE OF THE MORE MUNDANE —and often frustrating — tasks in nearly every installation project involves routing cable and pulling wire. Bosch Power Tools and Accessories has introduced a line of drill bits that promises to make the job easier. These extra long bits are specifically designed for deep drilling and wire pulling applications through multiple layers of building materials.
The bits feature an eyehole in the flutes that allows users to easily pull wire through the newly drilled hole. Once the bit has penetrated the wall or stud, a wire can be threaded through the transverse hole and the bit pulled back through the drilled hole. The wire can then be used to pull a cable or pipe back through the wall. The transverse hole in the bit can also accept up to 14-gauge wire, eliminating the need to attach a lead wire on smaller cables. This is especially helpful where the wall has a large cavity, where threading a fishtape could be difficult.
Made from high-speed steel, these bits cut through walls and studs easily and the 118-degree point ensures fast and accurate starts. The complete line includes three lengths: 12 inches, 18 inches, and 24 inches, all of which have four diameters available: ¼ inch, 5/16 inch, 3/8 inch, and ½ inch.
